Formal Training Vs Self-Teaching in Computer Graphics Arts

Do Art schools fully prepare you for your first job as a 3D artist or self-teaching is a better alternative?

Computer Graphics Art is one of those rare fields, where results count more than any certification. A lot of great artists are self taught, a degree does not seem to be mandatory, therefore demo Reels and Portfolios seem to have a more important role to play than education. However self-teaching may be a long process if you want to establish a career in this field (books, online tutorials, forums etc.). Determination, work ethic, and passion are the keys to success.

A school is a great bonus, but it is not guaranteed you are going to be the best artist on the block when you are done. No matter how much schooling someone has, if he does not love what he does. Also, schools are definitely only as good as their instructors... but no matter how great a teacher is, it makes no difference if the student is not just as passionate.

Schools provide some benefits like networking that you can also have with internet Art communities, learning aspects you may not have the discipline to easily teach yourself (e.g. programming with 3D packages) and speeding up your learning.

If you intend to go to school you should know that there are lot of things to be learned and hence it is important to first select the specialized field you want to be trained in. Once you have decided what you actually want to do then you can follow on your path to perfection. You can opt for colleges that offer you a regular degree or for institutes that specialize in short term courses in only particular software that is essential in Computer Graphics Arts.

As for any area, it is impractical to expect schools to fully prepare you for the real world, they will guide you through the first steps and show you the ropes, but in the end, you learn on your own, or you learn from your classmates. The real training begins once an artist gets a job and works together with other people in a production environment.

An employer may give importance to your education, but experience is much more important to the employer than degrees. Choices are based on visible talent as opposed to academic titles. Alternatively you can offer freelance services.

Online Degrees From Georgian Universities - Your Key to Success

I know there are certain misgivings students generally tend to harbor about online degrees. Are they as good as regular ones? Do they hold the same weight? These are only some of the many questions that may bother you before you opt for an online degree. All I can say, as a professional in the field for over a decade now, is that you can lay your doubts at rest. On the contrary, I am going to list you some advantages that online degrees have over regular degrees. Conceding that student and campus life in Georgia is wonderful, I must say that the scopes are little limited and your programs a little rigorous when you become a regular student. One of the biggest advantages that online degrees have over these regular degrees is its flexible. You can pursue it at a pace that suits you. Physical distance becomes no hindrance, and you can pursue your profession along with your studies. Finally, since we have technology at our disposal, there is no reason why we shouldn't make the best use of it. Moreover, as a busy professional, you are not really left with of a choice to attend a regular course.

Once you have decided to pursue an online course in one of the Georgian Universities, the next step is to select the course and the university you will enroll in. This can be a difficult step, as the sheer range of disciplines that modern universities typically offer can be enough to puzzle you. The key factor is to know your mind and the specific requirements that your field of work demands. Choose a discipline that will help in the advancement of your career and also satisfy your thirst for information and knowledge. For your convenience I will make an attempt to streamline the possibilities. Ignoring the specifics, some of the broad areas in which online degrees can be earned from Georgian universities include the following:

Business Technology
Criminal Justice
Nursing
Information Technology
Visual Communication

Some of the best institutes from where you can earn these online degrees include the University of Phoenix, The American InterContinental University, Strayer University and South University.

Georgia has some of the top art institutes and universities of the US, and definitely is the leader when it comes to imparting online courses in art. Creative art, you must remember is not what it used to be even twenty years back: struggling artists fighting it out in their cluttered studios or running around to bag a modest job of an illustrator. Digital technology has revolutionized the field of creative arts. With Media Arts, Animation, interior designing and advertising coming up in a big way, artists are having it better than ever before. Why not then sharpen your skills with a little help of some of the best people in the creative arts business. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh have imparted quality education related to art for the last 85 years and has now come up with comprehensive online courses that are ideal to suit the ever changing demands of the present world.

It is time you lay your misgivings aside and enroll for an online course and earn a relevant degree. The rewards will be more than you can ever imagine.

acquerelli per non sprecare la vita

This is a global art action about the making aware to the correct use of the water resources, ideated by Giuseppe Stampone and addressed to the primary school children. Spread as an artistic-social project through the intervention of Solstizio (www.progettosolstizio.net) and the support of Progettomondo MLAL (www.mlal.org). The main feature of Water-colors is the territorial expansion with the involvement of public and private organizations , schools, educational districts, cultural agencies, groups and movements. The first experiment took place in the province of Teramo in 2006, involving 80 school institutes of 40 minicipalities, and more than 10.000 school children; now it is spreading in Marche, Veneto and Umbria. Through an artistic and educational path where every child takes part decorating a bottle, assimilated to the human body, and transforming it in his self-portrait. A recycled plastic bottle becomes, from a private water container, means to represent a fragment of the world with its specificities. The artist chooses the bottles and composes them creating photographic posters of different measures; the aim is to create a cognitive map of identities, mixed from the meetings, the changes, the colors and the fantasies. In the final show the artist reforms and re-connects the single differences in an only moment of sharing, where the different ways of interpreting the reality meet each others. The single bottles make out an enormous installation in the city main ...

Steps to Becoming a Fashion Designer

Most people think that fashion designing is a glamorous profession, but in reality there is a lot of hard work that has to be put in designing the creations that the models exhibit on the ramp. Almost everybody loves good designer clothes. Though some depend on the clothes created by the designers to dress up smartly while some have the skills and talent to design good clothes, and therefore they themselves design their own clothes as well as that of their family and friends. If you have such talent, then you can become a fashion designer. All you have to do is follow the steps to become a fashion designer given below.

Follow Your Heart

If you get your choice of job, you would eventually become successful. If you have desire and essential skills to become a fashion designer, then you should follow what you really want to do and work toward it. The earlier you start preparing for this career, the better it is for you. If you are still at school, then you should enroll yourself in a drawing and sketching class. This would help you to sharpen your sketching skills, which is a prerequisite for becoming a fashion designer. You should help others in designing their clothes, as it will help your creativity to flow.

Join A Fashion School

There is so much competition in the field of fashion that you should not venture into this field without proper education and training. You should complete a four year degree in fashion designing from a reputed institute. The reputation of the institute matters as the graduates from leading fashion institutes are always in a high demand. At fashion school, you will learn designing, cutting, sewing, draping, and so forth. You will also learn about the different kinds of software that are used by the fashion designers. Besides preparing the students to design beautiful creations, these schools also teach subjects like accounting, management, and public relations.

Go Under Internship

It is important to have hands on work experience to know about the challenges of this business. You should do internship under a good designer. Apart from helping you to learn several things about designing, the internship will also help you to network with people in this industry, which is very important to become successful.

Build Your Portfolio

The sooner you start this, the better it is for you. If you have your portfolio ready, you would be able to show your designs to garment manufacturers or designers, which would help you to bag a job easily. Otherwise, if you want to start your own business, this will help you to show case your work to the prospective clients.

Participate In Shows

There are several opportunities that exist for the novice designers to showcase their work. You should not miss such opportunities. You should participate in the fashion shows to show your creativity to the world. At such shows, you also get the chance to meet great designers who could assist you in your career.

Keep Updated

You should keep yourself updated about the latest changes in the fashion world, for which you should read fashion magazines. The changes are not just in the designs but also in the way they are created, we mean to say technology.

3 Reasons Why You Need to Learn Pipe Welding Before Leaving Welding School

Almost everyone who goes to welding school soon finds out that pipe welding is the most difficult skill to learn and it also pays the most! But so many times welding students give up and take some low paying job just to start working. I have personally seen this and thought nothing of it. Later on I met a few welders who left welding school before learning how to weld pipe. Now they have 10 plus years of experience under their belts and wish they could go back to school. I always ask why and the same three reasons pop up:

  1. Regret

  2. Money

  3. Job security and demand

They regret leaving school without learning how to weld pipe. The story is always the same. I was going to go back to school, but then I got married, bought a house, and have my kids to support! Now they have responsibilities that won't allow going back to school! Regret is one of the worst things to live with! If you are in school just stick it out. I know a job will get you a car and spending money but is the price worth it in the long run?

Money is one of the main reasons everyone wants to weld pipe. Yeah it can pay very well but how will you be able to earn a pipe welder's salary if you can't weld pipe? The bottom line is a good pipe welder will make 100k plus a year. I know welders that are under 25 years old making 10k plus a month just because they can do something most other people can't. The best part about pipe welding jobs is you don't need a collage degree to make those figures. If you leave school early you will make good money but never great money!

Job security these days is the big issue no matter what you do for a living! Pipe welders are always in demand and when times get better there is always a bidding war to get pipe welders in the door. Its real simple; supply and demand! Structural welders are a dime a dozen and pipe welders are scarce. About a year ago I went to a shipyard for a pipe welding job and seen this demand first hand. I arrived at 8am and started filling out my paper work. By 10am the room was full of structural welders and only three pipe welders. The human resource manager came out and said they have enough structural welders and to send anyone new back home. Then I watched the human resource manager complain about how she needs a room full of pipe welders and does not care to hire any more structural welders. This is the typical story when it comes to hiring welders. Structural welders are so easy to find but pipe welders are what they need.

After hearing all of this I am glad I learned to weld pipe. It's not easy but in the end it's your life and your choice. Before deciding if you want to follow through with learning how to weld pipe. Think about where you might be in 10 years and how your choices today will affect your life in the future!

My name is David Zielinski and I am a Certified Pipe Welder. If you would like more information about Pipe Welding then visit my website http://www.gowelding.org. All of the information is free and it is full of accurate, hard-to-find, real-life welding tutorials!

Putting a Frame Around the Art Institute

I think that it's really too bad that we can't look into the future and see our mistakes before we commit them. Of course, it is possible that some of us wouldn't change anything because a person may end up on an even better path than where he started out, even when things go wrong.

However, we only have one chance at this life we live, and we can't always make the best decisions as we go through life. In my opinion, going to the Art Institute for my education was one of the best and worst things I ever did.

After I graduated from high school, I decided to go to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Music and Video Business. I didn't have any regrets at that time because it was a great course and I had a lot of fun there.

However, many of my relatives warned me that I wasn't making the best decision about my future. Of course, I did not listen to all their warnings. All I could think about was getting away from my stepfather and having a good time with my freedom. I like the idea of going into the Art Institute because it was just far enough away from home, and it promised to be a lot of fun.

It would be unjust to blame the Art Institute, but I can say they had a lot of problems. For example, the school authorities really didn't care when I had a complaint. They were not the least bit interested in helping me get back all that I lost out on some classes when they restructured their program.

I observed that the Art Institute is most definitely a profit oriented school, and I knew they didn't care as much because they already had my money. The only thing I got out of my education were some life lessons. The biggest lessoned I learned was that women have to fight ten times as hard to get involved in what I wanted to do. I also discovered that I was apparently not strong enough to fight.

The good thing about my experience was that I meet my husband at the Art Institute. I often joke that my tuition paid for him because I got nothing else out of it. I always thought I would be single for a long time because I wanted to be able to do what I wanted with my life without having to think about someone else. I guess I was just as wrong about that as I was about the Art Institute. The path I chose led me to where I am right now, and I wouldn't trade that for anything else in the world.

Acquiring B-Roll

Are you looking for good B-roll? Well, the cheapest and easiest way to get what you need is to shoot it yourself - thus giving you ultimate control over the shots you will get. But shooting it yourself is not always an option. That's when stock and archival footage come into play. There is a lot of B-roll footage out there so here are some tips on how to get what you need.

First, figure out what type of footage will work for your project? Do you need standard definition or high definition video? Will you need long clips or short clips? Are you looking for clean footage or something more graphical? Next, consider how much time and money you are willing to spend to get the type of footage you want.

I suggest starting with internet search to pin-point the type of footage you need. Keep in mind that it is often hard to find good footage for free.

If I am looking for footage from a particular industry, I will may search specific companies or associations for that industry to see if they have any footage available. They often do and are willing to share it at no charge. Just look under the "media" or "press" section of their websites or give them a call. I get a lot of good airplane and travel footage that way.

If you are looking to keep costs down try finding "public domain" or "royalty free" footage (meaning it is free to use) Just take note that "public domain" or "royalty free" footage often has a transfer or download fee. The National Archives is a good place to look for older footage that is generally in the public domain. (such as WWII, film shot by the military, Universal News reels, presidential speeches) if you are in the Washington, DC area or know someone in the DC area that can physically go search the Archives for you. Most of the footage is free to use but there is a small transfer free.

A number of United States government organizations provide stock video footage that is in the public domain. On some, like the White House website, you can download directly from the site. Others, like the Census Bureau website, require you have order the videos which they will send to you free of charge. Here is a very small sample U.S, agencies that have B-roll footage:
• White House
• U.S. Census
• NASA
• National Institutes of Health

Wikipedia has a nice list of public domain images - mostly photographs but some video footage as well.

News outlets have some of the better B-roll though they can get pricey. If you are looking for something a little more fair on the pricing side, try Gannett Video Enterprises (GVE). They have 22 television stations in 19 markets. They can fulfill many types of b-roll requests but are most commonly use as an archival resource. Their clients are usually folks who need B-roll for a specific story such as murder trials, severe weather, caught-on-tape, things like that.

I have recently stumbled upon Pond 5. It has a lot of shorter clips that individuals upload and then set the price. They have HD footage, music and sound effects as well.

Here are some other recommendations that have come my way but that I haven't tried yet.
• Public Domain Comedy Video has a lot of old school (black and white era) comedy video.
• Videohive has a variety of B-roll footage and motion graphics.
• Getty Images
• Istock footage has pretty cheap video and other images
• Footage.net
• ThoughtEquity
• Archive.org

And remember, always be clear about the cost and rights of the footage before using it. Some footage is priced per clip while others are priced per second. Some video may have a cheap fee for broadcast but may cost considerable more for internet use. When in doubt, call or email the footage holder with your questions.

A Need For a Self Defense Training

All over the world people are not safe, because of robbery, rape, assaults etc. Unfortunately the police may get involved in the issues only after the occurrence of the crime. A well defined Self defense methodology assists the people to get rid of these situations to some extents. Self defense does not mean to physical protection of people and resources, this should consider as a last resort. Appropriate planning can avoid physical self defense to some extent.

Different institutes are offering coaching classes on self defense to various categories of people. These training institutes provide behavioral as well as physical training to the clients. Every person has some inner strength, self defense coaching try to open up this inner strength to use it as "life saving skills". This will improve the quality of life in many aspects.

A good Self defense method includes 5 basic plans--awareness, avoidance, ability, attitude and adaptability. To implement these plans effectively in some dangerous situation may require sufficient "personal skills". Some people may have enough physical strength and analyzing capacities, but they may not have proper training to use it wisely. Self defense training trying to combine physical and mental strength of the candidates through real life examples.

Self defense is an art of dealing unfavorable situations. Violence comes only at the end. Different circumstances require different treatment. If some one tries to snatch from behind then you may not get any time to think. Martial arts tips only save your life in such cases. Most self defense academies are offering martial arts classes in combination with other techniques. Women are more vulnerable to the violent attacks. Learning some steps of Karate, Kung Fu, Kick boxing should give them courage in case of violent attacks.

Avoiding violence is a best self defense method. Self defense training institutes are following a tactic of teaching de-escalation. Training academies mold the common sense of their candidates for meeting emergencies. Behavioral and physical de-escalation techniques are available in the course of study. While choosing a Self defense program you must aware of the course contents they are providing. A good program includes resistance strategies, assertiveness, communication skills, and easy-to-remember physical techniques. Intelligence based training is useful than any other physical training. And main thing is constant training and practice.

Your mind is a major Self defense weapon. How to use your mind efficiently in a 'volatile situation' should be the major element of Self defense training.

Why Earn a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice?

The events of September 11, 2001, which sent ripples across our entire society, forever changed the way the world, views safety. As a result, the criminal justice system has adjusted to the new challenges both from inside and out of the US borders.

Along with law enforcement, the concept and need for homeland security have become more fundamental principles with law enforcement agencies from the federal, state and local levels.

A criminal justice degree can position candidates to perform a variety of services for the public. It's an extraordinary and exciting field, and on any given day may entail overseeing the protection of life and property. Quite, often, the job can be dangerous and stressful for industry professionals.

This field is quite often seen as a social science whose purpose it is to identify and explain criminal behavior patterns. The end result is to analyze, understand and better control crime and delinquency in society.

The curriculum is designed to study the criminal, crime, and the criminal justice system by taking an interdisciplinary approach, which combines legal studies, philosophy, public administration, urban studies, forensic science and much more.

It's a commonly held philosophy that if crime can be better understood, the causes of criminal activity,,the legal processes and treatment of offenders can be progressive and far more effective.

Education for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice Degree may contain, but may not be limited to training in the following areas: Correction Systems and Institutions, Crime and Criminology, Ethics and Criminal Justice, Applied Research Methods, Statistics for Criminal Justice, Critical Issues in Criminal Justice, Law and the Legal System, Substance Use and Victimology.

Criminal Justice graduate programs typically cover law, criminology, public policy, criminology and other related issues. Master's degree programs usually tend to overlap sociology, social work, population studies and political science. The (MS) Masters or PhD can also lead to a career as a probation officer, detective, probations officer or more. Like any profession, employment depends on preparation, skills, experience, work attitude and local market and other factors.

Finding the right venue to earn a Master's degree in this field can be just as important as the degree itself. Institutions providing course study should be accredited members of ACICS.

The smaller your class size, whether online or in a traditional setting, learning becomes easier and more enjoyable the more you can interact with classmates and the instructor. Hopefully, you will gain the initiative, independence and critical thinking skills necessary to be a success in class and on the job.

Southern Chicago Hospital Presents the Art Institute

Patients and visitors to a southern Chicago hospital who are lovers of art are in luck! Chicago's famous Art Institute is a world-class museum which brings visitors from throughout the world. Founded in 1866 under the name Chicago Academy of Design, it is one of the oldest art schools in the U.S., and it is carrying on the teaching of art and design to this day. Additionally, the Art Institute's collection presently contains over three hundred thousand works of art distributed among ten departments. The Institute's objet d'art include paintings, sculpture, photographs, architectural drawings, prints, and textiles from all over the world and thousands of years of history.

The principle building features beaux arts architecture and was constructed for the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. Over the years other buildings have been constructed, and the museum presently contains over four hundred thousand square feet of space. The collection of European Painting includes 950 paintings from medieaval times to the early twentieth century, with special emphasis on French painting in the nineteenth century. The most famous exhibit at the Art Institute is the Impressionist and Post Impressionist collection, which includes A Sunday Afternoon on La Grand Jatte by Georges Seurat, Acrobats at the Circus Fernando by Jean Renoir, and thirty-three of Claude Monet's landscapes. The Modern and Contemporary Art Department contains over 1500 sculptures and paintings from America and Europe made during the twentieth century. The world-renowned African and Amerindian collection features an exhibit of African masks, wood sculpture, ceramics, textiles, beadwork, and furniture from Central, Western and Southern Africa; and also a collection of Mesoamerican and Andes Mountains ceramics, textiles, sculpture, and metal work. South American Indian figurative art and ceramics are also well represented in this collection.

Another world-famous collection which south Chicago hospital visitors might enjoy is European Decorative Arts with over twenty-five thousand objects including ceramics, glass, furniture, metalwork, and ivory dating from the year 1100 to modern times; as well as sculpture from the middle ages to the present. The Textile Department includes over thirteen thousand examples (including over sixty-six thousand swatch samples) from 300 BCE to contemporary designs, representing Asia, Africa, Europe, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Indonesia. There are special collections of pre-Colombian textiles, tapestries, European vestments, woven silk, printed fabric, lace and needlework.

Visitors from a south Chicago Illinois hospital should not miss the fabulous Thorne Miniature Rooms which feature 68 doll's house rooms on a one-to-twelve scale showing a range of architecture from peasant dwellings to palaces. Another famous Art Institute collection is the distinguished Ernest Graham Study Center with over 130,000 architectural drawings and sketches. Families will especially appreciate the Children's Museum and the many rotating presentations at Goodman Theater and the Institute's Film Center. Children are also fascinated with the Institute's extensive Arms and Armor collection, as well as the collections of costumes from all over the world. The Art Institute has several pleasant restaurants including the Garden Restaurant and the Court Cafe. There is also a great gift shop on the main floor.

Art lovers at a south Chicago Illinois hospital will thoroughly enjoy a visit to the Chicago Art Institute. A refreshing change of scene and change of pace from the southern Chicago hospital can be a healing experience in itself, and the Art Institute is a world away from your south Chicago hospital setting.
